1939 World's Fair Brochure: "Tourism in the Netherlands Indies"

I found another brochure Madeline picked up at the 1939 World's Fair.  It is mostly about Bali.
The map and the information sheet above give you an idea of how life was in Bali in 1939.
Outside cover of brochure.
Inside cover of the brochure.
Island scenes.
These two statues are described as "Two fine specimens of modern Balinese wood-carving."
I don't know how these women manage to carry so much on the top of their heads!
A roadside shrine near Tabanan.
This picture shows women bringing fruit assortment offerings to the temple.  This was a Road Block on a recent episode of "The Amazing Race"!!!
The Water Palace of the Prince.
An advertisement in the brochure about train travel.
Advertisement for the Grand Hotel Homann.
Airline travel advertisement.
Hope you have enjoyed this little trip to Bali!

  1. Ann,

World's Fair stuff looks real good up here. So nice that the materials she collected are being shared with future generations.
